To Curse or Not to Curse

From 2007

When I begin this blog, my plan was to have a place to write and not bite my tongue. A place where I could be me, in the raw and uncut. So many writers and journalists have to go through editors, and also follow guidelines which limit some of the stuff they can discuss and certain words they can use. I, being a writer myself for a nationally publicized magazine, have to do the same when I submit an article for the magazine. As it is fun and a great job, it does not allow me the full freedom I so desire in my writing. That is why I am here.

Besides some of my opinions being politically incorrect and maybe even offensive to some, I have caught flack for my occasional use of curse words. Some say that I will not garner respect because of the use of so called foul language. Well I say, FUCK that!

To many facets of life you have to watch your step or bite your tongue for someone else. That is the whole point of this blog, it is where I can be anyway I want to. After all, it is my blog isn't it? I believe my writing, and my great arguments and points should be enough to look past maybe a word or two a reader does not approve of. If they choose not to read my blog, there will be five more that will. So this is no loss to me.

To argue my case for the use of foul language, let’s look at the language being used. We will use the word FUCK for the example, since that seems to be the most vulgar and unaccepted.

The word FUCK comes from the early pioneers of this country. If you have read or seen the movie "The Scarlet Letter", it basically came from that theme. When a woman was found or caught cheating on her husband, she had to wear the word FUCK on her clothing. This was to punish her and shame her for her adultery against her husband. The word FUCK stands for, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Now it does represent a bad thing for a woman or husband to do, but why is it a bad word? Is it because our parents or teachers say so? Because our priests or authority figures say it is?

I do not believe cursing is a sin. For all you religious fanatics out there, it is not one of your ten commandments, so why are you on my ass about it? I do not even commit adultery where the word comes from, so why am I the bad guy?

See, I believe sometimes curse words are good for emphasis in articles. I think sometimes a curse word gets the point across more. The curse word allows you to feel the anger or emotion of the writer on the certain subject. When I say,"FUCK YOU", you get the point don't you? You know I am angry at you and despise you. What if I say," I do not really agree with your point, and do not appreciate the way you approached the situation"? That might be nicer, but I am not trying to be nice to you. I want you to know that you have angered me greatly, and I am pissed off. It brings emphasis to certain points, and does not candy coat the feelings expressed by the writer.

This country was founded in men who believed in freedom. (OK they are hypocrites because they owned slaves, when they wanted freedom themselves)This country is still the land of the free, and the constitution gives me the right to say whatever I want, whenever I want. So if I want to say bitch, cunt, fuck, shit, piss, ass, hell, God damn it, or whatever, I will. You can read it or you cannot read it, you have the freedom of that choice as well. Just do not try to bring your beliefs and morals and try to push them on me because I do not believe in the same thing.

I might have my own beliefs and morals as well, and they may differ from time to time from other people. I do not push them onto other people like so many others do. I just state my point and argument and let the readers and whoever makes their own choices and decisions on what I discuss or believe. All I ask is for the same common courtesy. If you do not want to give me that respect, then go FUCK yourself! See you next time!
